it's been a short week so i'll just get straight to it. there are no rankings to display yet as not every team has had a chance to show their worth. so i will get straight into the fun section:
adjustments
this section will be dedicated to personal reviews performed by the committee to award or deduct points for things the system otherwise does not account for. the following games were affected:
the ireland game: iowa state vs kansas state
jet lag and a little bit of rain are no excuses for a lack of ability to hold onto the ball, especially in the one and only ireland game. if we want other countries playing our football, we need to show them the best. two fumbles apiece is not the best, and in recognition of this iowa state and kansas state have been deducted two points each. the resultant scores of this game are therefore:
iowa state +6, kansas state -10
idaho state @ unlv
the entire fcs was collectively placed in the f tier for a reason. for a team entrusted with b tier status and given a 98.6% kickoff win probability by espn to come this embarrasingly close to losing to any fcs team should not go unnoticed by the committee, especially in week zero. in recognition of this feat, unlv has been deducted four points and awarded a "moral loss". the resultant score of this game is therefore:
unlv -3
the late game: stanford @ hawaii
for geographical reasons, the hawaii rainbow warriors will often be subject to my personal viewership due to having the latest start times for home games. that aside, the game actually first drew my attention when hawaii mistakenly took a fair catch on their own 1, putting me on high safety alert. they instead gave up a touchdown, somewhat disappointing me but not enough to punish them. however, their semi-comeback later in the game led to a review of core game stats by the committee, and to avoid counting this as an embarrasing loss it should not have been, stanford has been demoted to d tier. otherwise scored under normal rules, this game results in:
hawaii +32, stanford -32
scorigami recognition
thanks in large part to the 12-team playoff era, teams played mostly normal matchups this week, and otherwise due to the low amount of games, only one team received scorigami points this week, and that was a high score rather than a weird score. nevertheless, congratulations to:
- western kentucky (41 vs sam houston)
finishing up
the belt remained dormant this week, but will receive a feature section in the next article. speaking of which, week one is the weird part of the season without nfl competition, meaning the last game is technically on monday night, so the article for week one will have its earliest possible release on tuesday, september 2. see you then.
